In August 2020 ACTLAB was honoured to receive Special Consultative status from the Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) of the United Nations. We are enthused by the opportunity to work alongside ECOSOC, with our shared vision and values, and to continue to deliver development opportunities for vulnerable populations.
A major target of the UN has been to further enhance relationships with NGOs across all regions of its work. It recognises the vital role NGOs play in global development and formalised this in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
Working with ECOSOC allows us to provide information to agencies and member states within the UN, as well as raising awareness of our activities, while also advocating for policy change.
ACTLAB is proud to join more than 4900 other NGOs in the program to share our expertise and experiences. Special Consultative status gives international, regional, sub-regional and national organisations, that represent important elements of public opinion, the opportunity to express their views. It also allows the UN to in turn represent these views at vital high-level policy meetings across the globe.
This partnership means that ACTLAB’s work in the development field has been recognised to be of significant importance in progressing the lives of people in Cameroon. Through our work with ECOSOC we are able to assist in implementing international agreements, advancing UN goals and continuing to elevate the voices in our communities.
Beyond this, ACTLAB may also attend international events, make written and oral statements at conferences and develop meaningful networks through meetings and side-events.
The granting of the Special Status is a testament to the years of hard work and support from our core staff and volunteers. ACTLAB looks forward to continuing to progress our development goals in Cameroon and on the international stage.
