Economic empowerment begins with opportunity — and opportunity grows when people gain the confidence, skills, and support to pursue meaningful work. That is exactly why Action Lab for Development Association (ActLab) is launching a new community learning program that unlocks potential and builds futures.
Starting December 5, 2026, we will offer free weekly workshops designed to help participants discover their strengths, develop workplace and business skills, and take action toward employment or entrepreneurship.
Learn. Grow. Take Action.
Our hands-on workshops introduce key skills for economic and personal success, including:
- Innovation & creativity
- Entrepreneurship & business basics
- Personal development & leadership
- Public speaking & communication skills
- Digital skills — Microsoft Office, graphic design & more
- Access to career development mentoring
Each session empowers participants with practical learning tools, confidence-building activities, and encouragement to take real steps forward in their goals.
These fundamental skills are stepping stones to real change:
- They help people apply for better jobs
- They empower new immigrants and youth to fit confidently into the community
- They give future entrepreneurs the ability to turn ideas into start-ups
- They help individuals discover their voice and strengths
Participants also gain access to laptops, computers, and creative tools — ensuring technology is no longer a limitation.
Supported by Experienced Mentors & Professionals
Workshops are delivered by volunteer instructors including:
- Business professionals and local founders
- Bachelor’s/Master’s students in Business Administration
- Educators in entrepreneurship and economic empowerment
Participants also gain one-on-one mentorship through our Career Connect & Entrepreneurship Program — supporting business planning, job placement, and funding opportunities.
Community Partnership for Accessibility
To ensure that everyone can learn, workshops take place in convenient spaces:
📍 Action Lab for Development Association Hall
📍 Stanley A. Milner Library – Downtown Edmonton Public Library
Computers and workstations are available on-site for those who need them.
Workshops are free, open to the public, and registration is first come, first served — with up to 10 participants per session to ensure personalized support.
